Nubra Top Tips
Permits are mandatory
As you cross the Khardungla pass from Leh town, you would reach the Nubra valley. Its very well known for Siachen glacier in the north and also used as a passage to Tibet. The deep cut valleys provide breath-taking scenery on the way surrounded with lush green grasses and mountains all over. To enter the Nubra valley, permit is a necessity and I would recommend getting it done through a travel agent. I had booked my travel and permits through Saffron travels and had a smooth experience overall.

Explored at Nubra:
Double humped camels – These camels usually inhabit in cold desert regions; found in a village named hunder in Nubra tehsil. You can take a ride if you wish to or else just relax and click pictures on the white sand dunes.

Khardung La pass – Khardungla pass is the highest motorable road in the world (though this is debatable) and a gateway to Nubra valley. Also do make a stop at Khardungla café to try their yummy samosa and maggi with chai. You would also face acute airsickness so drinking continuous water and not sleeping on the way to Khardung la is highly recommended.

Diskit Monastery – Stop at the gigantic Buddha at the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery, Diskit. In case you have seen the Thiksey monastery and you happen to miss out on this one, don’t be disappointed.
Unexplored at Nubra:
Turtuk village – Beautiful and unexplored village, predominantly a Muslim area and its famous for its India-Pakistan border.
Bornfire – One of the things I regret not doing in my tent stay (Mountain camp Nubra valley in my case) was enjoying a bonfire in the chilling ambience. So I would definitely recommend trying that out.
