Honeymoon – London & Scotland Top Tips

Cambridge Top Tips

Boat rides with a view are fun

If you are tired of walking and want to explore the best of Cambridge, ride a boat with an average of £ 8 per person (with around 5-6 people riding together).

Day 4 | 15th May | Cambridge :-

Cambridge, an hour journey from London, we caught a direct train from St Pancras International station, which is a min walk to Kings Cross underground station. The frequency of the train is quite good and you can use google maps to check the timings as well.

Best time to visit –

Visit Cambridge in the months of summer (mid-June to August) as most of the events happen at that time and exams are over by June 19. This is the tourist season; hence accommodation can be comparatively costly.

Places to see-

Fitzwilliam museum –

We opted to walk the city, headed directly to Fitzwilliam museum. It was free of cost and embellished with a humongous armory, pottery and paintings exhibited.

King’s College and chapel –

Next was the King’s college and the chapel. We paid £ 9 per person, disappointed with the fact that Cambridge had no discounts for BritRail pass owners. You are not allowed to visit the college from inside, but you can definitely move around as well as visit the chapel.

Also during the academic year (early October to early December, mid-January to mid-March, mid-April to mid-June, late June to mid-July), you will get the chance to attend choral services in the Chapel. [ Timings: Mon to Sat @ 5:30 pm and Sun @ 10:30 am and 3:30 pm ]

Also do keep a note that from mid-April to mid-June (Easter term) is the examination period in Cambridge and therefore most of the college grounds are closed. But even then you happen to be there, you could visit the Chapel.

Mathematical bridge in Queen’s College –

We exited King’s college by walking on the Kings college bridge and treading along the streets we got a view of the Mathematical bridge. A localite told us that the Mathematical bridge was built without the use of nuts or bolts and then the students tried to dismantle and assemble it again. On repeated failures, they had to use nuts and bolts to hold the structure together. But there are still doubts concerning the veracity of this story.

Places to eat-

Cambridge is replete with restaurants, try some good options in and around Kings college. Or safest option to try in UK is caffe Nero, the famous coffee joint in UK.
